At the time, Star Wars fans expected a delightfully solid-looking new entry to the franchise. We had no idea that the show would birth a cultural phenomenon, uniting nerds and normies across the globe in unanimous adoration. That beautiful gift – that meme that keeps on meming – was none other than “the Child, “aka” baby grogu Yoda. For over a year, the internet collectively obsessed over the little green creature while knowing close nothing about the character. Sometimes known as Baby Yoda or the Jedi Master of Puppets – is one of the most incredible Star Wars characters.
Origin
Grog was born in 41 BBY, the same year Anakin Skywalker was born, so it is almost poetic that Grogu, when Ahsoka is Anakin’s padawan, should be offered to her. Interestingly, Grogu Mandalorian also appears to have high M-counts, as explained by Moff Gideon’s scientist. As a child, grogu armor Mandalorian was trained in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Grog likely met all of the Jedi we encountered in the Star Wars prequels because he was at the Jedi Temple. Ahsoka even mentions that many masters trained him, but she does not specify who the masters were. When Emperor Palpatine executed Order 66, all of the padawans and Jedi were in danger.
Though Ahsoka does not specify who, someone hid grogu 3d away for his safety, but that happened many years before the events of The Mandalorian series. There are still many years unaccent for. It is unknown how Grogu survived all those years in hiding, but we know he dampened his powers to hide, as Ahsoka explained. However, we still don’t know who protected him nor how he made it this far. There are many questions still to answer. But if nothing else, we finally see the Child’s proper name: Grogu!
Force Sensitive
So far, only two other beings in the Star Wars canon are the same species as Yoda, and both have been powerful in the Force. They are refer to almost exclusively as “Yoda’s species. This makes sense, as Yoda was the Jedi Order’s leader. He had been a Jedi for most of his 900 years of life. And yet, though we know he was a Jedi for an extended period, we don’t know much about his past. All that we know was that he was a great Jedi leader.
Her name was Yaddle, and she appeared in Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. She also sat on the Jedi Council and shared Yoda’s strong connection to the Force. Most recently, there is grogu 3d, a child from Yoda’s species. He is also highly Force-sensitive, using quite a few powers as an infant, like lifting a mudhorn, Force-healing, and, on occasion, Force-choking.
Slow Aging
The group appears to the youngest known member of Yoda’s species. He is only 50 years old and still developmentally an infant. They referred to him only as the Child for the whole first season of The Mandalorian. It seems that the species is, for whatever reason, relatively slow to age. They live much longer than most species, though it’s uncertain exactly how their age shows. Yoda was nearly 900 years old when he died, passing peacefully in his sleep. Interestingly, his body faded. He had become one with the Force.
Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn taught Yoda how to become a Force ghost so that when the future Force-users and Jedi needed him, he could be a guiding voice. He helped Luke Skywalker, even after his death. He also helped Rey and Kylo Ren and enabled all those who would seek council with the Force. Even more mysterious is Yaddle.
Hidden Homeworld
The last thing we do, or perhaps the last thing we don’t know about Yoda’s species, is where they are from. It’s reasonable to assume that if there is a planet where their species originates, then that planet is likely in the Outer Rim because few planets left unexplode by the Separatists. But ultimately, we have no idea where Yoda’s species comes from. Even before we met grogu yoda, he was learning at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. We know that Luke met Yoda on the planet of Dagobah, but we do not know how long that was Yoda’s home, and we do know for sure that that was not his planet of origin. This secret has hidden Yoda’s species from the rest of the galaxy. It’s unclear if their heads will ever reveal.
So special about Grogu
Grog, nicknamed Baby Yoda by fans, is a character from the Disney+ Star Wars series The grogu Mandalorian armor. He is a member of the same species as Jedi Master Yoda, and like his namesake, grogu armor is powerful in the Force. The 50-year-old infant has won over the hearts of viewers with his big ears, big eyes, and cute antics. He’s also become a popular merchandise item, with some plush toys selling for hundreds of dollars. Some fans are worried about Grogu’s fate after the season two finale of The Mandalorian, in which it is revealed that Kylo Ren killed Luke Skywalker. Will this lead to the death of Grogu as well? Or will he continue to show up in future episodes?
One thing is sure: many people love grogu plush and want him to live on! A YouTube channel called grogu armor World hosts a monthly video update where their 8-month-old host updates the viewers on what Grogu has been up to lately. But how do you care for a teddy bear as unique as the grogu doll? It can be difficult, but one thing every fan should know is that if you’re going to play with your grogu toy, take off all its clothes first because they might get ripped off or soiled during playtime.
Group has no known living family members
The only other beings from grogu costume species ever depicted in Star Wars canon are Jedi Grand Master Yoda and Jedi Master Yaddle. Many fans theorize that the grogu armor paracord zipper pull is the offspring of Yoda and Yaddle. The Mandalorian has not yet confirmed nor denied that theory. However, it’s worth considering that no Star Wars media has ever hinted at a relationship between Yoda and Yaddle. Furthermore, Jedi were forbidden from romantic attachments during the era when Yoda. And Yaddle sat on the Jedi High Council. Unfortunately for baby grogu, even if Yoda and Yaddle are his parents, both are either confirm or believe to be dead in the case of Yaddle. At this point, Din Djarin, aka “Mando” is the closest thing baby grogu has to family.
Grogu is happy to eat almost anything
Yoda’s species is thought to carnivorous, base on Yoda’s sharp teeth and claws. And given Baby Yoda’s instinctual appetite for frogs, this may be true. However, Jedi Master Yoda also is shown to sustain himself on roots and mushrooms, indicate his species is omnivorous. ScreenRant.com. So far, we’ve seen Grogu stuff whole frogs in his mouth, eat unfertilized eggs, and even unborn ice-spider babies. Occasionally, grogu memes will enjoy a regular bowl of soup with Din, but he is liable to shove anything down his green gullet whenever unsupervised. In Chapter 12, he steals a snack resembling blue macarons from another child and devours them throughout the episode.
Jedi masters trained Grogu on Coruscant.
Jedi masters trained Grogu on Coruscant, and his knowledge of the Force is deep. He has used his skills to help fight crime in San Francisco, New York City, and London. But did Kylo Ren did kylo ren kill grogu? We can’t say for sure! Some believe he ran away to live a more peaceful life on an unknown planet far from The Dark Side. There are rumors that he’ll return one day when we need him most. Some people have even gone far as to create a Kickstarter page hoping to fund a new line of plush toys called Grogu Plush, but it looks like this project never came to fruition.
This furry little creature has been a welcome addition to Star Wars fandom since his first appearance in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. He takes after all animals affiliated with The Force character, having fuzzy ears and adorable pointy nose. While it remains unclear whether or not he was killed off-screen by Kylo Ren during Rey’s interrogation scene or left with Luke Skywalker at the end of Episode IX.
The group likes round objects
From the first time luke and grogu sat in the cockpit of Din’s Razor Crest ship, he has had an odd fascination with a spherical knob on one of the ships control levers. In Season 1, it seemed he reached for the knob to put it in his mouth as any baby would. But in Season 2, Grogu’s obsession increases, with him using the Force to draw the knob towards him telekinetically whenever he has the chance. Erik Voss of New Rockstars recently pointed out that the knob looks like a tiny Death Star.
Maybe he even considered it home at one point. Beyond just knobs, mandalorian has also shown a peculiar affinity for other spherical shapes like eggs. Many viewers pointed out that Grogu’s interest in Frog Lady’s eggs (Season 2, Episode 2) seemed to run much deeper than just hunger. Whenever Grogu spott the eggs, a whimsical musical score was cued, and Grogu’s facial expressions resemble wonder and maybe even familiarity.
